HAPPY BLOG ACTION DAY! #bad09
http://www.blogactionday.org
Blog Action Day is an annual event that unites the world’s bloggers in posting about the same issue on the same day on their own blogs with the aim of sparking discussion around an issue of global importance. Blog Action Day 2009 will be the largest-ever social change event on the web. One day. One issue. Thousands of voices.
The theme for 2009: CLIMATE CHANGE
…i have chosen to re-blog the thoughts i had after first seeing the climate blockbuster: ‘the age of stupid’ - as this is what i am now living by…
climate change: what will i do?
1. keep up the personal efforts..the ones we all know about: recycling, switch stuff off, short showers, public transport etc etc etc… and attempt to make no more flights!
2. try to get as many people as i can to a screening of ‘the age of stupid’; see here: http://digitaleskimo.net/blog/2009/10/12/de-flicks-presents-the-age-of-stupid
i’ll also try to organise one at fionn’s school, stay tuned…
3. take part in any way i can in drumming the message into our so-called leader’s ears that anything agreed to at copenhagen must match what the scientists advise, and that anything less is a worldwide suicide pact.
4. at the same time, acknowledge that ‘policy’ only goes so far, and stats can tell any story you want them to, so direct action is required; i’ll investigate greenpeace, the greens etc and take part in their actions. and any new job i take on in 2010 must be in line with these values too.
5. parent my son away from the god of consumption, competition and unquestioned eternal quest for ‘more’…and instead grow his empathy, his compassion, his sensitivity, love of nature, sense of wonder and one-ness. and practically speaking, i have ordered a book called ‘unconditional parenting’ which promises insight into raising children with good character without the ‘punishment/ reward’ system. what i see practised currently (be good and you get a gold star, 10 gold stars gets you a toy etc etc) seems to reinforce the getting of new things as the only reward in life. there must be another way.
6. continue to nurture my spirit and its connectedness to all things via meditation, yoga, dancing, loving and self-nurture. external action only has integrity if it comes from the true source. transformation is the first action to take and maintain.
7. drop the fear. i did feel very scared for the first 24 hours after seeing this film, but today i feel invigorated. the only way forward will in turn also create the utopia we have always dreamed of, inside and out.
what will you do?
