here’s that ‘25 things’ thing i did on facebook…

25 RANDOM THINGS ABOUT ME (in no particular order)

1. My name means ‘small, quiet baby bird’ in Estonian and if you say it properly, it sounds like birdsong – Vaike Linnuke –(thanks for the poetry Dad!)
2. I lived in Kuala Lumpur in 1997.
3. I lived in London in 1998.
4. My first love was dance, I did it seriously for 15 years, but wasn’t ‘good enough’ to ‘make it’, however I am seriously thinking of doing it again somehow.
5. It wasn’t until I finally and reluctantly gave up on love that I met my fiancé Dave. He is so perfect for me that I think I made him up.
6. I love my 7 year old son to bits; I don’t say that everyone HAS to have a child to be complete, but if you feel the calling, don’t hesitate – jump in. It will turn your life upside-down and I can’t recommend it highly enough.
7. I share custody of my son 50/50 with his dad who is an amazing man. However challenging we find each other at times, we are committed to raising our beautiful boy together.
8. I have experienced a very close and unexpected death. When I was 22, my boyfriend at the time was murdered. Suffice to say that I underwent an existential/emotional/spiritual upheaval and am forever changed. I am at peace with what happened. I hold no malice towards the perpetrators. But I do now have an interesting relationship with ‘death’ and ‘the other side’ – sometimes helpful, sometimes not.
9. I really lucked out with my family. They are fantastic. There is not a single one I wouldn’t seek out as a best friend were they not already my family.
10. I am currently living with my parents. It helps out me and them in the short term. I am trying to remain conscious of how wonderful it is to have this time with them – and not regress to the bratty teen I once was!
11. It’s a long and private story, but I only came to know my big brother 4 years ago. Having him in my family makes it feel complete and I am so grateful we found each other!
12. I have the most stupid HECS debt ever – it’s for 2 incomplete degrees. One from NIDA, which was one of the best times of my life..in hindsight. I plan to complete a degree someday soon.
13. I am currently on a ‘semi-sabbatical’, having the luxury and opportunity to not be busy every moment of every day. I am experimenting with meditation and trying to give myself until the end of the year to let new ideas of who I am and what I could do arise. It’s wonderful, but surprisingly difficult to allow.
14. I have suffered from depression. I have thought I was going mad. Having been there and back, I now feel immune, although I reserve the right to be melancholy and/or eccentric as needs must…and I believe what it comes down to really is being sensitive, in a good way.
15. Music is just extraordinary. I did learn how to read and write it but would be rusty now. It’s the language of the soul and the universe and god. My favourite band is Radiohead.
16. I have been a Christian, both fundamental and pentecostal, and an objectivist. But not all at once. And not now.
17. I was Dux of my school 3 years running. Then I wasn’t.
18. I have a dash of the libertine in me and have at times dabbled with excess. I don’t know if I think this is good or bad.
19. I was a very scared child; big imagination = lots of fears.
20. My favourite colour has always been yellow for its optimism and audacious happiness. And it’s Dave’s favourite colour too for the same reasons!
21. I was raised a vegetarian. I am not religious, but definitely believe there’s ‘something’…and vegetarianism and being near the ocean are what bring me closer to it.
22. I cry easily and often, and for many reasons.
23. I love a good pun and love to make people laugh.
24. Theatre is in my blood and I fear it always will be, although I’m unsure right now as to how that will be facilitated. I have produced 5 shows of which I’m incredibly proud, but it’s not always fun wearing your heart on your sleeve. I love how a theatre company in production is a microcosm of how a utopian society could work.
25. I used to be a stage manager – and probably would still be if I hadn’t become a Mum – I loved being privy to the moment before an actor enters – I love watching their energy swirl and focus ready to go on, it’s magical. Oh and I also LOVE all the backstage antics and in-jokes that go on, I may have even been know to initiate a few ;)
